I know this is an old video but i like listening to these still and something dawned on me. Just this one thing, Due to the massive ambiguity around it, i wouldn't be surprised if they (fromsoftware) themselves never decided where that note would come from. I think the fact that the nature of this game in particular and how little is solidified for the player character, that they figure we might as well just throw this in there. I remember Darkbeast Paarl was skeletal, being the equivalent of a human skeleton to a living human. But I like your take that electricity is the power of mankind, which makes sense since it harms celestials more than anything else, and inversely Arcane which celestial energy harms humanity more than anything.

41:01 turns out that the guidebook is correct because the japanese description of Kos parasyte says that the corpse was just "abandoned" on the beach and the villagers say that "mother was killed", not just that she's dead. Lokey talked about this in his blog. I think that Kos gave eyes on the inside to Rom as Micolash says but since her metamorphosis was imperfect Willem ordered the hunter to slauther the villagers and Kos to take the umbilical cord he desired, he wanted to ascend by himself since he saw what happened to Rom ("Provost Willem sought the Cord in order to elevate his being and thoughts to those of a Great One, by lining his brain with eyes. The esoteric meaning behind tarot is that it descrives the path towards enlightenment, especially in the major arcana. The hanged man is 12, right before 13, death. I often think of it as the pursuit of ego death. Giving up your appearances and stringing yourself upsidown, in the hopes of shaking things up and reaching an epiphany, or ego death and rebirth. Very reminiscent of the goals of the hunters. Tarot also matches the theme of oedon, because the general idea is that the cards are archetypes, or patters that tend to manifest themselves repeatedy in reality in deffert forms. Tarot cards are representations of the ideals of those situations, in the same sense that oedon is the ideal of mercury and its various forms and uses

Beautifully explained. It's similar to one of the more esoteric and hard to understand ideas of the Ying yang. One of the dualities of the universe is form and formless, things existing and slowly dissolving and things that don't exist yet coming into existence and moving towards form.

This analysis on Oedon is now the central plank of my own analysis of Bloodborne. What a revelation. Thanks so much for it! It's a significant departure from Pale Blood Hunt, but a most welcome one.

Man, even 7 years later, this is by far the best Bloodborne deep-dive video and series on this site. The Oedon/Mercury/Corruption/Birth connection recontextualizes so much of the story. Additionally, given the reveal of cut-content giving us the Lake of Mud Moon Presence with a very Nyarlathotep design, we can be certain of their thematic connection. I mean, it literally has His weird tentacle with a hole for a face head.

Formlesness is a form, very paradoxical but I understand it i think.

Does it make sense that the bloodletting beast is Lawrence when his skull is a holy object in the waking world? I wouldn't get hung up on it if his skull was just a part of The Nightmare but it's in the waking world. Love the videos btw RedGrave, you're one of my favorite creators on this subject. To add to your point that the City is screwy with time, I think that's because of the Dungeons that have a weird relationship with time and spaces well as just the influence from the Eldritch beings.

Just watched all these over two weeks including the audiobook version of the Pale Blood Hunt, I just gotta thank you for the wonderful time I had. Finally got a PS4 and Bloodborne is only 9 minutes away from fully installing. I'll finally be able to visit Yarnum and explore to my heart's content.

I really hope you would come back and make more lore videos about bloodborne. I know most things have been covered at this point, but you have a very unique perspective that no one else has. I discovered the Paleblood Hunt 7 years after the dlc and I really want to see you take on the lore years after the “full release” of the game.

I'm the last holdout for the theory that Oedon is the Amygdala on the side of the building. I don't consider that a shallow read, I think it's consistent with a lot of the themes about religion and our place in the universe, as well as being an early-game demonstration of the Insight mechanic and the layered nature of the world.
